Sri Lanka’s National Immunization Programme has achieved a major milestone with the official integration of private health institutions into EPINET, the digital information management system of the Epidemiology Unit.
This digital integration enables the systematic incorporation of vaccination and communicable disease surveillance data generated by the private sector into the national health information system. By formally linking public and private healthcare providers through an integrated digital platform, Sri Lanka has significantly strengthened coordination between the two sectors.
This advancement enhances the completeness, timeliness, and accuracy of reported immunization and surveillance data, minimizes reporting gaps and duplication, and supports enhanced monitoring of programme performance. Ultimately, the integration represents a critical step toward a more complete and cohesive immunization delivery system, ensuring that all administered vaccines—regardless of sector—contribute to national coverage estimates and public health decision-making.
