Renewed Measles Risk in 2026

Measles is a highly infectious disease transmitted through the respiratory tract. It can lead to serious complications and even death. With the support of all stakeholders, it was possible to control the measles outbreak that occurred in 2023, and the country had been measles-free since January 2025.However, in March 2026, a measles case was reported in an unvaccinated child in Colombo district.
