MMR Supplementary Immunization Activity

MMR Supplementary Immunization Activity (SIA)

Continued on next Saturdays (13th, 20th, 27th January and 3rd February)

The Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health launched the MMR Supplementary Immunization Activity (SIA) on January 6th, 2024, across all immunization clinic centers in nine selected high-risk health districts. The focus of this initiative is on infants aged 6-9 months.

For eligible children who missed the additional MMR dose during the initial campaign, supplementary doses can be administered on the following Saturdays at central clinics within their respective Medical Officer of Health areas.

Dates: January 13th, 20th, 27th, and February 3rd, 2024 (Saturdays)

Time: 9:00 am – 12:00 noon

Place: Central clinic of the MOH Office

The selected health districts include Colombo (including CMC area), Gampaha, Kalutara, Galle, Matara, Kandy, Jaffna, Kurunegala, and Kalmunai

Target age group

  • All children in the age group of completed 6 months and up to 9 months of age by 6th January 2024

·         Eligible children are those born between April 7th, 2023, and July 5th, 2023, inclusive of these two dates

This approach ensures that eligible children have an alternative opportunity to receive the MMR vaccine, contributing to the overall goal of enhancing immunity and preventing the spread of measles in the selected high-risk health districts. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to take advantage of this additional opportunity to protect their infants from this preventable disease.

It is important to note that Supplementary Immunization of MMR vaccination should be considered as an additional dose, and routine MMR vaccination is recommended for all children who have received SIA-MMR vaccination upon completion of 9 months and 3 years of age.
