Influenza - How to be prepared

Seasonal flu is caused by influenza virus that circulates in all parts of the world. Although most people recover from fever, cold and other symptoms within a week, the illness can vary in severity and might lead to hospitalization and death particularly in high risk groups, including elderly, very young, pregnant women and those with serious medical conditions.

In tropical countries like Sri Lanka, the incidence of influenza can increase during rainy seasons. There are two main peaks when there is a higher number of cases, which is from May to July and from November to January
