Covid 19 and Monkey Pox: WHO declares the end of global health emergency

Covid 19 is no longer a public health emergency..

WHO declared a public health emergency of international concern over the global outbreak of Covid 19 on 30th of January 2020. Since then seven million deaths have been reported worldwide yet the actual death toll is estimated to be higher. On the 5th of May 2023, WHO declared that Covid-19 is no longer a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC), while emphasizing that the disease is now established and ongoing health issue in the community.

Monkey Pox is not a global health emergency anymore..


On the 11th of May 2023, WHO declared that Monkey pox is no longer constitutes a global health emergency, almost a year after it was announced as spreading globally. The decision was prompted by the declining number of cases worldwide. However, WHO emphasizes that the disease continues to be a threat, especially in the African region where it has long been endemic.
